A mobility and digital services company in the Democratic Republic of Congo needed a comprehensive digital platform to serve their growing user base. The platform required a mobile application for end users, a web-based management portal, and integration with local and international payment systems β all in a market with unique infrastructure challenges.
The client's key challenge was finding a technology partner with the engineering depth to build a production-grade platform while understanding the constraints of operating in Central Africa: variable internet connectivity, multiple payment methods (mobile money, bank transfer, cash), and the need for offline-capable functionality.
CHINTEC's Suzhou development team of 8 engineers worked in close collaboration with the client's Kinshasa-based team, using agile methodology with bi-weekly sprints and daily standups bridging the time zone difference. We used COSMIC estimation to provide transparent, fixed-price scoping for each phase.
The architecture was designed for the DRC context: offline-first mobile app with background sync, lightweight API layer optimized for low-bandwidth connections, and a modular payment integration layer that could accommodate local payment providers alongside international gateways.
We delivered a three-tier platform: a React Native mobile application with offline capability and progressive data sync, a Next.js web management portal with real-time analytics, and a Node.js API backend with PostgreSQL database and Redis caching.
The payment integration layer connected three providers β Airtel Money (mobile money), Rawbank (bank transfer), and Stripe (international cards). A unified transaction management system provided real-time reconciliation across all payment channels, with automated reporting for regulatory compliance.
The platform launched on schedule after 6 months of development and achieved 50,000+ active users within the first quarter. The offline-first architecture proved critical β over 40% of transactions were initiated in areas with limited connectivity and synced when connection was restored.
The client reported that the platform enabled a 3x increase in service delivery capacity compared to their manual processes. Payment processing time decreased from days to seconds, and the automated reconciliation system eliminated the manual accounting errors that had previously required 2 full-time staff to manage.
βCHINTEC understood our market. They built a platform that works in the real conditions of Central Africa β not just a lab environment. The offline-first approach was game-changing for our operations.β
